This little jar sits on our kitchen counter. We add to it all year long... moments of joy, gratitude, laughter, and connection. Every new year, we sit together and read them all — reliving the magic we might’ve forgotten. It's my favourite way to start the new year.

🧠 This simple ritual does more than feel good. Practices like this help train the brain to notice positive moments, which supports emotional regulation and builds resilience over time. Reflecting on joy and gratitude can calm the nervous system, strengthen connection, and gently shift the brain away from constant threat-scanning.

We often treat rest like something we have to earn (after the to-do list is done, after we’ve pushed through, after we’ve proven we’re “productive enough”), but your nervous system doesn’t work that way.

When your mind and body have been under stress, in survival mode, or constantly “on,” rest isn’t indulgent - it’s regulating, and it’s how your system recalibrates.

Burnout doesn’t mean you’re lazy or failing. It usually means you’ve been trying to cope for too long without enough support or pause. ⏸

You’re allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to rest without guilt. And sometimes rest is the most productive thing you can do for your mental health.

Trauma doesn’t stay neatly tucked away. It comes out in our tone, our reactions, our shutdowns, our defensiveness, our anxiety, our silence, our “I’m fine.”

Kids feel it in your tension. Partners feel it in your distance. Loved ones feel it in the moments where your nervous system is doing the talking instead of you.

When you’ve lived through a lot, your body learns to stay on guard — even when the moment is safe… and that survival energy spills into the room long before you realize it.

💡The goal isn’t perfection — it’s awareness.
 Awareness is what breaks generational patterns. Awareness is what keeps you from handing your pain to someone who didn’t cause it.

So what can you actually do?
⏸️ Pause before reacting — even 3 seconds changes the pattern
🫀Notice what’s happening in your body (tight chest, shallow breath, clenched jaw, racing heart)
🗣️ Name the feeling without judging it (“this is fear… this is shame… this is old.”)
🌱 Remind yourself: “this reaction belongs to a past version of me, not the person in front of me.”
🫁 Regulate your nervous system before you respond (hello deep breaths)

✨Healing trauma isn’t about never getting triggered — it’s about not letting your old wounds run the show in your current relationships.
